Both of the .17hmr FV-SR's I've seen were non fluted barrels.
Just received my new FV-SR from Bud's Gun Shop. Was surprised to find that the 16.5" barrel was non-fluted. I raised the issue with Bud's and customer service rep contacted Savage and was told that some of the rifles were, in fact, made up w/non-fluted barrels. I really don't care about the fluting and a plain heavy barrel suits me fine. I'm curious, however, if anyone else has had a similar experience with either the .22LR or .22 Magnum versions of this rifle, or the 17HMR.

Sir, Thank you for that response. Now, at least, I know that mine is not something out of the ordinary. I really don't care whether the barrel is fluted or not. Just wanted to make sure that it was not an "irregular" if you know what I mean. Again, thanks for your response to this question.
Jrjordan u r welcome and I understand perfectly.
My 22lr is fluted, they might have cut out the fluting as a way to save on production costs and time.
All of the Mark II (.22 cal) FV-SR's, TRR-SR, and TR's I've seen have the fluted barrels. This is the 93R 17HMR FV-SR, and it does not. Again, I would be interested in hearing from anyone else who as this particular model.
