    Long Action .223 Build Question

    I have a model 110F 7mm rem mag action that I am building into a .223. I bought a Long Action .223 bolt head with the front baffle for this build. This baffle will not go into the action. The bolt head will but it has a small pin that fits into a groove on the front baffle ( 7mm mag action front collar does not have this groove). Got out the mics and .223 front collar is .007 thicker than the 7mm mag collar. I also checked the diameter of the firing pin holes thru the bolt head face and they are the same. Is it possible to remove the small pin from the .223 bolt head and use the 7mm mag collar with all other original parts from the 7mm mag action? I know I would have to reset firing pin protrusion. I believe I read that .035 is optimal. Many thanks in advance to those taking their time to pass on their knowledge to me.

    PS: After further research I believe the bolt head is from a long action Model J.

    I'm away from my LA 223AI until late Sunday, or I'd chime in. That said, I do not believe my factory .378 bolt head has any pin that interfaces with the baffle.

    The pin in the bolt head was to limit the rotation of the baffle. After it was all said and done, it was evident that it was a waste of ingenuity. Trim the pin off and use a standard baffle.

    Thanks to Boilerup and especially Sharpshooter for taking their time to answer my question.

    @Spectre236:

    Do you have a parts list (vendor, part #) that you used to convert your bolt to .223? I'm looking to do the same: convert a .30 long action bolt to .223.

    Thanks.

    Dave Kiff @ PTG will make you a long action .378 bolt head, but you have to email the request as it is not a normally cataloged item.

    Hello NotorousAPP - No I do not have vendor or part numbers. I bought the long action bolt head with the baffle and found out it would not fit my rifle but Sharpshooter gave me the solution. Sorry I could not be of more help. Good luck with your project.
