Hello All-
I bought a 1899H in 30-30 last year that came with the wrong rear sight. It shoots way high even at 25 yds with full deflection. I measured the barrel at the front sight at .583" and at the rear dovetail at .737". The front sight blade insert appears correct and measures .317" above the top of the barrel. Unless I have misused it, the Brownell's calculator gives a result of a total rear sight notch height of .240", somewhat less than 1/4" above the barrel. Questions are:

1) Did I measure the barrel in the correct area for the rear sight?

2) Is there a formula that uses the height of the existing front sight?

I bought and installed a Marble's #006400 short semi-buck sight with adjustable notch that did some good, but is still too high. Any thoughts/ suggestions/factual anecdotal experience would be greatly appreciated. I really do not want to put a folder on it.

Thanks for reading this.
