    Outside neck lube?

I've ordered a new neck sizing die and carbide expander for my 308.
Will I need to lube the OUTSIDE of the case necks? I've been doing so with my FL sizing by virtue of using a spray lube, but with neck sizing I won't be lubing the case body anymore.

I don't use one with my Lee collet neck sizing die. if you're die is a collet die, there is no lube needed.

It will go smoother if you lube the inside even if it is only every 3 or 4rounds that you lube
Try it. You will notice the difference

My dies don't touch the inside of the case. Expanders are bad LOL

You'll love the feel of the carbide expander.
I just dip a case neck into my Imperial dry lube, every once and a while......

    outside neck lube?

I use a slightly different approach that eliminates the cost/need for a carbide expander. Spread some RCBS lube on their lube pad, push the neck mouth into the pad. This leaves a small ring of lube that will be pushed onto the outside & inside of the neck by the die. About every 3rd or 4th case should be ample....... Case neck stretch will be minimal.

Sorry, but the RCBS lube 'used to be' a petroleum based lube. You would be much better off with a lanolin based lube like Dillon, or a wax based lube like Lee. I used the RCBS lube back 'in the day' and it worked, but the mess was NOT worth the hassle! Ever use STP?????
Go with Imperial products and you will love them!

Sorry n4ue, Most any liquid lube used to excess becomes a house keeping chore. One of the reasons I prefer LCD's. Using my method, regardless of product type, hardly constitutes a problem if used sparingly. It's JMHO and you are welcome to yours. The original formulation RCBS lube is no longer available so what does this have to do with anything?

I don't lube necks when I'm neck sizing only. And I don't use an expander mandrel inside the neck either.

Do what works best for you though.
