    Age of Stevens 5000 .410

Just yesterday at Easter dinner my cousin gave me my grandpa's old 410 side by side rabbit gun that his father gave him. It is marked J Stevens Arms Company on the right hand side of the action with a dog, and 5000 on the other side. I think this means that it is from the 20s or 30s, but what throws me off from all of my looking last night and this morning, is that every component has a serial number, all matching. I know with my Remington I was able to look up the serial number and find out when it was manufactured. Is there some sort of list like that for these Stevens Shotguns? Also, on the bottom of the action, forward of the trigger guard is a stamped circle with the number 11 inside of it.

Any input would be greatly appreciated as grandpa is no longer around.

    Thanks!

First off are you sure it's not a model 5100? Never heard of a 5000.

Take a better look at that stamp, maybe with a magnifying glass, there should be a letter in there somewhere unless it's just an inspectors stamp and not a date code.

I was at work when I posted yesterday, but last night I was able to take some pictures.

Hopefully these pictures are able to help out. If you would like to see others I can take more tonight when I get back home.

Nope, you have the IMG tags right but the website your trying to use isn't working right.

    Try a photobucket membership maybe.

That's not a date code, it's just a proof number or inspectors stamp.

Found a bit more on the 5000's, I guess the 5000 was made from 1921 to 1931 and then changed the name over to the 5100. I never even heard of a 5000 before this so I'll have to keep my eyes open for one.

If I were you and wanted some cool info on it I'd write a letter to the Savage historian and get it lettered. It's your grandfathers gun so lettering it would make it even neater to see where it went to when it left the factory and what year it was made.
