    Newbe 110 build questions

I've been I long time fan of Savage. I own 9 of them in a few different calibers. Now I want to build a 260 Rem. So I picked up an old 110E 30-06. Now the questions.
Can I buy a trigger to fit it?
How do you tell a center feed from a stager feed?
Is this build even possible ?

I wish I would have found this site before I bought it.
    Thanks, Dan

You have several choices for triggers, Timney, SSS, Jewell are the first that come to mind.
a center feed action has a magazine box that's attached to the stock, the stagger feed box is attached to the action. Yours will be a stagger feed. You won't have a problem converting to 260, just pick up a small shank barrel in 260 and a set of 308 family headspace gauges and you're all set. The long action of the 110 gives you lots of room for those long high BC bullets.
If your rifle is a "series J", the action length is shorter than a long action, and longer than a short action, commonly referred to as an intermediate action, and stock choices are severely limited.

Thanks for the info. Just one question How to I know if it is a series J? The spacing on the action screws is about 5.070

If the action screw spacing is over 5", you have a long action and can disregard the intermediate info above.

The intermediate or "Series J" actions were Savages 1st attempt at a Short action and have a screw spacing of 4.52". Since your action is in 30-06, it is a Long action with the 5.06" spacing.
Chances are its a Staggerfeed model. If it is a flat rear then it most certainly is a SF. If you want to know how to tell the difference, read this ARTICLE and it will show you how.

Yes you should be able to build a 260 on it with minimal difficulty.

As long as it is a post 1966 (IIRC) model then it should accept most any of the aftermarket triggers out there. You can even retro fit an Accu-trigger if you want.

Great article, Mine is a stagger feed. As far as the trigger goes it is different than any of my other Savages. Is there any way of adjusting it?

Jewell does not make a savage trigger of any kind.I myself like the rifle basix sav-2 and the sss comp trigger.None of the others are not that great in my opinion.I built a .260 on a long action and it works out perfectly.

Thanks for the trigger input. I think I'm going to tear the trigger apart and attempt to polish the sear.
