    Savage 99 peep sight ?

I bought a Marble tang mounted peep sight for my model 99 which was built in 1948 and is factory drilled and tapped for a tang sight. This was my Grand Fathers rifle and then handed down to my Dad and now handed down to me. I wanted to keep it all original but with my eye sight (wear trifocals) I suck using open sights.
Did any of the Savage 99's come with both a standard rear sight and a tang mounted peep sight or was it one or the other ? Should I remove the rear open sight ?

Usually one or the other, I think the only model that came with a tang sight was the 99K, the rest of the models it was an add on

You could take the rear sight off and replace it with a slot blank to protect the dovetail.
