    headspace question

Is it possible to set headspace without a headspace gauge on a 7mm mag? By my understanding the belted magnums are headspaced off the belt, correct? I'm looking for a rental gauge but I'm having a hard time. I really don't want to buy one since I just want to remove the barrel once so I can get the action refinished.

With a belted mag I think its a bit different. When I did my 7mm Rem Mag, I just measured from the base of the brass to the leading edge of the belt. Found one of the longer ones, and then set relatively tight to that (after running it through my FL die of course). This way you are set to the belt, not the shoulder initially. After that you can size your brass to only bump the shoulder or neck size only to kind of negate the belt and add to your brass life.

Of course add a pc of tape to the base of that brass pc to create a No-Go Gauge.
