Ok fellas this is my minor dilemma. Right now I have the MTM hinged top ammo boxes in 2 different sizes. 30-06 height and 243/308 height. My 22-250 loads are 2.486" long base to tip and in the 243/308 box the front row closest to the latch hits the lid while the 4 rows behind it clear fine. I can't actually latch the box without a lot of pressure on those front rounds which is a no-no for me.
When put in the 30-06 cases the entire piece of brass is between the dividers and makes it impossible to pull empties out. I either have to jamb a cleaning brush in the necks or dump them all out on table which I'm not fond of either.
So who is using what that will hold a 2.5" tall minimum loaded round while still allowing one to grab ahold of the necks with their fingers? I prefer to stand cases on the base, but if I need to switch to the other style I guess I will. Frankford Arsenal, Pelican, inverted MTM? Thanks!
I use the MTM 308 length for 22/250, but the ones I use have a molded hinge rather than a standard style of hinge. My loads are a little shorter than yours though and don't hit the lid upon closing. They won't work in a 30/06 length case as you noted.
I'm searching for boxes now for the 6.8 and 22/6.8 that I have, nobody has anything on the shelf nearby that will work, and empty brass gets lost in a 308 length box.

What I have done in the past for situations like that is gone up to the next taller size and then glue a pc of foam/dense sponge in the lid, trimmed to fit of course. Keeps the rounds from making noise and bouncing around and gives me all the room I need.
Right now I am putting my 6WSM rounds in a MTM hinged case for 7RM/300WM length rounds because the 300WSM box is just barely too short almost closing but putting lots of pressure on the rounds, to the 7RM case with foam in the lid works great for that for me.

If you're really OCD about it (and I mean that in a good way) use a .30-06 box but glue a piece of eraser in the bottom of each cartridge slot. Will take a bit of fiddling to get the length correct but you can then buy a couple of eraser sticks, cut them to size, and drop them down the hole with a dab of hot glue (use a dowel or something to apply pressure initially). Boots, when you step up in size how do you grab ahold of the empties without having to dump them all out? I'm currently using the taller box with foam on top, but it's really a PITA trying to get empties out. I like to be able to look at primers and clean case necks of fired rounds between range trips, gives me something to do after dark and isn't as boring as sitting down to clean a whole batch at once.

Thanks rick, it appears we were posting at the same time. I was thinking along those lines but was hoping there was something else I could just buy and be done with.
Tweezers work if need be, but you can also take a loaded round (or make a dummy out of a used up pc of brass) and stick the bullet in the mouth of the empty. It will suck it right up and out of the box with ease.

I use MTM ammo boxes. Medium fits .22-250, .243. and .308.

The Frankford Arsenal 22-250 boxes are listed as accepting a cartridge 2.9" long which will give me plenty of room to close lid and still use fingers to grab empties by the necks. I'll get a handful on the way and try them out.

Well crap, thanks for the heads up wrench man! Guess I won't get them after all. I'm going tomorrow to a shop that has a ton of the inverted bullet pointed down MTM boxes in stock with a dummy round and see what I can find. Otherwise it will just be the 30-06 height boxes with a shim of sorts in all 50 holes.

M19A1 but I have a few more rounds than most.
I'm using the Plano medium boxes there good with my 80 grain 22-250 loads. But the 155 grain Berger 308 loads are too long. I'm going to get some 30/06 boxes for that ammo and cut some foam for the bottom of the dividers.
I had the same problem with the Frankford boxes way brittle.
I have had breakage problems out of MTM cases. We boxed up our ammo to shoot prairie dogs last year and shipped it on ahead. Well, UPS beat the outer boxes all to pieces. The ammo boxes inside ended up breaking during the trip. During the shooting trip we would pack a days worth of ammo with us instead of carrying too much at once. I had several box latches and hinges break during use. I used a medium and small rifle 100 count boxes (RS-100 and RM-100).
I buy the MTM cases from the factory store, http://www.ammoboxes.com, so I called them when I got back. They shipped new ones out to replace the broken ones no questions asked.
