Back from 1st snow goose hunt

Well it was a fun weekend! 4 guys we killed 42 geese. My buddy, his dad, and friend who do this every year kept saying it was slow but to me a first timer it was pretty fun!! I learned a lot and will do it again. I was worried how Zeus was going to do (1 1/2 old) holding still while the geese decoyed and retrieving through all those decoys but he did fantastic! I had a good fall with him with ducks and grouse but this was his first goose hunt. Here are some pics.

This one we had a goose lock his wings and sail out onto the ice after being hit so we sent the pup out for his first wounded chase. Its was good entertainment watching him chase that bird around the ice.

And what trip would be complete with out breaking something on my new to me one month old truck....

Sounds like a good time. Me and a buddy have been avid waterfowlers for several years, but never ventured into Snows yet. We have really been thinking about it here last 2 weeks as in the field right next to one my family owns, about 2,500 snows have taken up residence for the time being. Being right in the next field we would most likely spook 'em out anyway just trying to get setup. Hopefully by next year we will have some snow dekes and be prepared.

Glad you got to shoot some. Snow goose hunting is the best when they work. This has been the worst year I have ever had. Just pulled up all the decoys today. And, I need to change some things up next year. I guess since these birds are shot at from august thru April they just don't decoy well much anymore.

All the ones we shot you could tell they were hunted hard. We couldn't get them to finish, most shots were pretty far out there. A lot more missing than hitting that's for sure.

Frank-Well the window broke cause as I told my insurance company "I' a Dumb...". See I just bought this truck at the end of January after my old one died. I had the back drivers door open getting my backpack ready on the side of the gravel road. Went to grab water bottles out the back of the truck, wind blew door shut, and wammo keys locked in (they were in my backpack). Now we are sitting there in the dark all our gear and dog still in there. Tried all the handles and set off the alarm! So lights flashing, horn blarring, starting to panic as my friend had invited me and I had never hunted or met his other friend so hes probably thinking gees whos this moron! I have always hung spare keys under my trucks but this one only came with one so I hadn't got the spare yet...lesson learned. Grabbed my knife to try and pry open my rear slider and the glass started to bow, so I figured either it pops open or it shatters...either way I'm in. Well it shattered big time. Grabbed my gear out and went hunting and still had a good time. Hey that's what full glass coverage is for right?

Pretty funny sucks to be the new guy that got invited and can't get right. Another hunting story in the books. I once left the keys to my Jeep in Florida. Problem with that is we had towed up and I was on the back my buddy's Jeep was in front of mine. Made it to the Stealership with 5 min to spare to get a set cut from the VIN.

I have popped a rear window the same way. Have had the spare key on the truck ever since.

GM and Dodge must have the same supplier for 3rd brake lights then cuz that's identical to the one on my new Chevy.
