So I just got a Savage 111 recently and here in california magazines are limited to a capacity of 10. So I was wondering if it was possible to get a few .30-06 magazines that hold 10 in them for my 111?
I have looked for the past hour or so online and even searched this forum and haven't found anything close to what I want. If anyone knew where/how to get one I would appreciate it.

CDI and a few others make bottom metal that will accept AICS mags....spendy, but really the only option I know out there.
There are members here who have made what you're looking for. I'm not sure if they're currently looking for more satisfied customers or not.

How hard is it to make and how much would it cost to just have three of them done either by myself or someone who knows how? I've never toyed with magazines and dont know what to expect. If it doesnt work out though then that is okay, because for now the only foreseeable thing to happen with that savage for a while is to go benchrest shooting with it at a shooting range. Magazines run between $75 and $150 each depending on caliber and capacity....a quick search of Midway didn't show any for 30-06, but one could probably make the 300 Win Mag ones work with a little effort...and Accurate Mag only shows them available in 5 round capacity ($78/each)....10's are gonna be hard to find I bet...

Also, remember, if you have the bottom bolt release, that makes things more difficult, but word is someone is now making the AICS compatible bottom metal for bottom bolt release Savages now....again, search around, somewhere here on the forum about those as well.
There was a guy modifying 30-06 BAR military magazines to fit the old savage bottom metal but he quit. Colo State laws or something like that.
Next there is PTG bottom metal. They wouldnt tell me what they are building and what it will fit. They should be out soon. About $130 or so and takes AICS mags.
Next there is the CDI bottom metal and that works but expensive. $220, $60 to mill the stock and 10 round AICS magazines from $90 to $125 or so. So figure the package with 2 mags = $530.
The 10 round Remington 750 aftermarket mags come pretty close to fitting in the old style bottom metal long actions and if you do some pounding, grinding filing and welding you might be able to get one of them to fit. Once you grind off the hump, It does fit into the well fairly tight. Found these a while back for about $25.

that last option seems like the most reasonable option so far. It wouldn't really make sense to me to spend more than the rifle itself is worth on any one attachment.
Okay, I will go farther into my experiment.
We have a 740 in 30-06 so I bought one of these 10 round mags then figured out it would almost fit my side button savage.
If you have a different setup it probably wont work.
Remington 750 mag has 2 nubs on the back side of it.
You can see the 2 nubs in this photo and they might have to go depending on your action.

It fed 30-06 fine, but I was trying to get it to feed 7mm mag and never could get it to feed without nose diving so I would forget about magnums with that one.
Also the back of the 7mm mag case would hang on the inside nub area after I modded it.
I also cut the notch in the side for the catch which was the easiest part, did it with a worn out dremel cut off tool.
You just have to triple check and make sure its in the right place.
After I got it in the gun it would cycle 30-06 fine and fed regular shells okay, but I did not fiddle too much with 30-06, only 7mm mag.
The mag is a bit shortish compared to a Savage mag and it does rock back and forth due to being held in on the middle of the side and not bottoming out on anything.
I figured it needed a piece of metal welded to take up the space so it fits tight against the stock IE a flange to fit in the factory recess.
If you could imagine an old savage DBM mag with a hole cut in the bottom chop the bar mag and weld it into the savage mag, or something like that.
Browning BAR mags are 20 rounders.

Do you have bottom or side bolt release? It makes a difference...as noted above, I know people that have managed to make the Remington 740 mags work, but only on the old bottom metal DBM models....if you want it to actually work and work right all the time, yer gonna need to spend some $$

Discussed giving this a try with my dad. We figured it wasn't worth all the trouble just for a magazine. I will hold on to that darkeagle site though. That might prove useful one day. Thanks for the information though.
Have a 111 bottom release .300 win mag. WASTED too much time looking for a higher 5+shot mag I just purchased 2 more stock mags. from cabalas(Canada). there were a few folks making short action higher capacity mags but no long action mags. I hate wasting time......could have been shooting or fishing...... sticks getting shorter. Hate wasting time( Think I already said that!!)
