Savage 116 front Action Screw - Angled?

I'm working a bedding a Savage 116. To my untrained eye the front action bolt appears to be angled slightly, as little as 5 degrees from TDC. Am I seeing things or is the front action hole in the received angled back just a little bit?

cut a 1/4 28tpi bolt screw it in the action , then set a small square next to it

5 degrees give or take according to my old carpenter square. Definitely not straight 90 degrees to action.

A gunsmith or someone can use a mill and retap it straight.

Seems like the screws in my Model 12 were angled backward a few degrees, too.

Does it matter? I don't see how.

The only thing it might do is help keep the recoil lug seated against where it bears on the stock, which seems like a good thing, not bad...

I agree. My question was only if it was angled. And it appears to be so....about 5 degrees to the rear which probably helps pull the recoil lug against the stock as you described.

The reason I asked is because I am drilling out a replacement Boyd stock for pillars and wanted the front pillar to have the same angle as the bolt. Which it now does.
