    Model 99t 250-3000 (20" barrel)

I have some ?'s about my 99t, Not sure what's original. Ser# 353,7xx (1936). It's stamped T on the fwd end of rcvr (behind fore stock) and has ser# and T stamped on fore stock where it meets rcvr.
?. It's the only one I've seen with checkering on the cheek. Was this a factory option? It has a white ring fwd of the butt plate and under the pistol plate.
?. It has a small compass set into the top of the stock (1/2"), poly choke company. Probably not original.
    ? Redfield rear sight. Original.
I bought it for my daughter to shoot but when I found the T on the rcvr I got a little nervous about it. May have to find her another one.

I wouldn't worry to much about giving it to your daughter.

It sounds like a T but it's been so badly bubba'd that theres no collector grade money left in it anyways.

They never had checkered pads and the compass and white ring(????) aren't reversible.

Definitely a T and that checkering on the pads has me confused. It blends real nice, I've seen K's with that type of checkering.

It's early enough to get lettered and I'd push you in that direction, maybe a special order, who knows.

I'd spend the $30 if it was mine.

    Mad Dog,
I've never had a gun lettered, but it sounds like he could tell me if the gun left the factory with the pads checkered.
I might also get some info on the white spacer fwd of the butt plate.

Is it best to send pictures???

Lastly, is the historian still John callahan in westfied, MA.?

    Thanx again for your help.

Yep, J.C. still does the lettering on all the old Savage and Stevens firearms.
