Try 42 to 43gr of varget and a CCI BR primer. This combo shoots extremely well in my savage .243 and my brothers stevens .243.
Would like to try the 58grn Vmax in my .243 with a 9.25 twist 22"barrel. Is this too fast of a twist? If so what is the lightest bullet this barrel should shoot well? Looking for a flat fast pd round. Thanks Matt.

Thanks for the reply. I'll definetly try the Varget, just don't want them coming apart.
I actually shoot the nosler or combined technology bullets but I am sure the hornady will work just as well.
I like and use a lot of Vmaxes but the 58 grain has never worked out near as well as the 55 Nosler. For whatever reason the 58 tends to be fussier to preasures and not as fast or accurate.
In the 5 243s I've workt with 50.5 grains of H414 behind a 55 Nosler works great, the 58s have yet to work as well?
Thanks for the tip. What were the twists on those .243s you were working with?
Also, where in WY are you? I'm in Green River.
I've pushed the 58 V-max up to 4169fps with 8208XBR in an Audette ladder test. Savage 9.25.Originally Posted by mattri

Copper might be your only problem.
3 10 twist and 2 9.5twists. The one 10 twist likes the 55s and ONLY the 55s but thats all right as its a blast watching red-mist! The best shootin one of the bunch is a 9.5 but it also throws the 105 A max very well??Originally Posted by mattri
I'm in Casper but escape to anyplace else as often as possible!!
I just started making a load for this yesterday, new reloader, so starting out light. Same barrel I assume, savage 110 22" sporter 1 in 9.25... Light charge right now, 38.6 of IMR 4320 I believe, and shooting .5 MOA @ 3200 FPS. So far, I like.
Great shooting, thanks for the tip.
Update, 41.9g IMR 4320 seems to work the best for me. .29 MOA @ 3400 fps.Originally Posted by Doug1
