    4-12X40 or 3-9x40 Scope

I have a savage in 30/06 and have both 4-12x40 & 3-9x40 most all my guns have 3-9x40's on them 243,270,30/06 bought another 30/06 and was wondering if anyone had input on optics. Being I already have 1)30/06 with 3-9x40 on it. The 4-12x40 has a 30/30 recital, what the pro's & Con's on this topic. My thinking is use the 4-12x40 In more open areas where the 30/30 would help & the extra mag comes in handy?

I find the 4-12x? to be a great universal range of power for most hunting situations. I give up 1x on the low end vs a 3-9x? but gain 3x so I feel its a better deal unless you are in dense areas but then a 2-7x40 would be a better choice for denser areas.

I would have also chosen the 4-12 for the same reasons listed. Lose 1x but gain 3x. I took my deer this year with a 6x and boy what a sight pic at twenty yards.
