I present to you a 50 Caliber it's pet name is the Dislocater, here it is beside a 223 it is based on a 375 Ruger, only you get the basic Brass which means it is not necked down, $50.00 for 50pcs at Midway which will last a lot longer than your shoulder will, it holds somewhere around 100gr of powder, you use 50 cal pistol bullets which are available from 275gr all the way to 700gr, and the best part you use 50 S&W dies for all the reloading, I doubt you will need to full length size on straight wall cases you rarely do, but if you find the need to a gutted 375 will do 90% of the length of the case, once again low cost wildcatting, Jim @ Apache is doing the work for me his attention to detail is first rate.

This looks great, yet why do I still want a 495 A-Square?
I forgot to add, this can be mounted onto a Savage small shank, since it is a straight wall there is not a lot of bolt thrust or as much pressure as you might think, the bottle neck in a regular cartridge is what creates the pressure and havoc.

I am not building any more rigs, I can buy 5 barrels for what it costs to put a decent rig together, so I am going that route from now on, I have they option of swapping barrels, and am going to start using it more often,

Another thing I forgot to add, is it uses a mag bolt head but the case does not have a belt, it headspaces off the rim.

I been considering a .444 Marlin for black bear, but you keep distracting me with these teasers. Maybe I'll just use the Mosin 44 next year n start looking for a short mag to Freakenstien to a 50 carbine. Can hardly wait for spring just to get your range reports! :-)

It has a rim diameter of .975", a LOAL of 2.220" and the case made from lathe turned brass.
Each morning eat a live green toad, it will be the worst thing you'll have face all day.
How can it headspace off the rim? I would think it would head space off the case mouth like a 45acp.
My buddy has a 50 Razorback that is based on a 300 ultra mag case. It uses .510 caliber bullets, the go to load is a 500gr cast paper patched and loaded to 2350fps. We have shot a lot of prairie dogs with it, and he killed 2 antelope with it a couple years ago. I have never seen an antelope drop faster than when hit with that bullet....he now has a 510 wells which is pushing a 500gr over 2600fps, we might try that out this year on antelope.

I have wanted this rifle since the first time I held it, your .500 case seems like it could be a better option though. If I ever draw a moose tag Ill be using one of his big bores, either the RazorBack or the 510 Wells, just because.

I really want to build one. Ballistics should exceed 458 win mag yet be practical and affordable.
Lots of 7mm rem mag's around would be a fairly straight forward barrel swap to a great guide type rifle. Maybe add a ghost ring peep sight an skip optics completely.
One build could easily last a lifetime. Could go through several shooting buddies just breaking one in.
Did a little searching PowderValley has brass and bullets too. Just no primers or powders. Cept black powders (which could.work but not really the direction your going here). The availability is there to support interested wildcatters.
That was the first thing I looked into, availability of components and it seems almost every major seller has them, and most LGS I asked can get them, cool a caliber that has not yet been pillaged.

Just a slight derail, but the 375 Ruger brass looks like it would be really good for making a rimless instead of rebated rim 458 socom, if trimmed to 1.575, or you could have the options of making a 308, or 30.06 length variant. all three would be serious thumpers, with the Socom length being good for subsonic.

You can get 30-06 and 308 Basic brass, that would be a lot less work to prep them.

I think you missed where I was going,
The 458 socom is generally built on a AR-15 platform, but the brass is really hard to find, whereas if you started with 375 Ruger,
or 404 Jeffery brass(WSM) wouldn't it be possible to make a necked down 45 cal rifle cartridge?
