    Viper reticle?

    I'm thinking about a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44 but not sure about the BDC or mil-dot. I don't like large bulky lines or clutter. Any of you looked through both? Is the BDC finer and less cluttered?

    Anyone seen any specials going on them lately? TB

    I have two vipers in that size.One with the BDC and one with the dot.When you look at catalog pics of the reticles ,you might believe they are too large,but that is not the case.The BDC ,which I haven't shot much is non obtrusive,and should be fine on PDs on up.Price lately around $400.Midway,Midsouth,SWFA.I wish Opticzone caried them,because they ship free.Might wait for a 30-40 $ off sale at Midway.The eye relief moves in as the power increases.Not something that should be a poblem in the field.

    If you can afford the price difference the EBR reticle on the new PST models is better than either of those other reticles. You will have to wait for it though. The Mil Dot will give you holdovers for longer shots than the BDC but the dots are too big for my liking.

    As for Midway having a sale on Vortex, they are not allowed to sell them below the MAP just like every other Vortex dealer so don't hold your breath.
    The price for Vortex optics should be the same no matter where you buy it other than free shipping. If you find someone selling for less than MAP with free shipping, or throwing in free gear, let us know.

    I think he is referring to when midway offer $40 off a order of 400 or more kinda of a thing not a sale on the actual scope itself.

    That too would be a violation of the Vortex dealer agreement. You can't give ANY discounts or freebies on their product.

    If the discount applied to non Vortex items ONLY then it would be OK. Example: You bought a Vortex for $300 and some other branded stuff for $80, they could apply the $40 off to the other stuff. If you only bought the Vortex then they should not apply the discount to your order.

    If looking for good deals I've been buying optics & cameras from these folks since 1999 and never had a problem. A lot of what they sell has been lower priced than anyone else that I could find. Good people.

    PS: I am planning on ordering a Nikon 1200 Gold Rangefinder from them for $349.95. Cheapest I've found for a new one.

    um, Can you translate this to English please

    I know mil-dot, & I suspect that BDC is ballistic drop compensated. but the rest????

    Joseph, try giving Doug or Neil a call a Camera Land. I'm betting you'll be pleased with their prices and service. They are also a board sponser.

    I ended up going with the BDC reticle. I called Vortex and the fellow confirmed that the mil-dot did have larger dots and may appear more cluttered than the BDC. First impression of the scope is good but I have not mounted it yet.

    More info on that reticle on Vortex's website.

    Looks like that reticle is only available on the PST models - about $800 retail.

    I believe it is either MOA or MIL with matching turrets depending which one you order.
    I ordered the MOA:

    Vortex 6-24x50 Viper PST 30mm Rifle Scope
    Stock # - PST624F1A

    * Matte
    * EBR-1 MOA Reticle
    * 30mm
    * First Focal Plane Reticle
    * .25 MOA Adjustments

    "Aim small miss small", ;D
