I like the aps pain killer's myself. They are nice on shoulders but no so on the ears, but from my understanding that's pretty much the norm for a brake
So I am looking to add a break too my 300wsm. Is there a good brand or person too go looking for ?what are the plus's and minus's? any suggestions would be very welcome. Thanks all !!!

There are a lot of choices out there. Just depends what you want.
I suggest doing a search on muzzle breaks (Google) and you will find many. After you see one that interest you, let us know and we will give an opinion on it.
FWIW, we make one and I also like the VAIS breaks. But there's many more too look at that are very good.

Harrels has a radial break that does not need to be timed. They are under 40.00 and you can tell them what thread you would like.
Willing to give back for what the sport has done for me!
Your shooting style should be considered when choosing a brake.
If you shoot prone especially while hunting it's best to select one without bottom holes.
I have vias or vias types on my guns and they work well for me. but then im not a belly shooter either.
I feel this type is more attractive also.

Great brake. Quick installs and turnaround. Fantastic price.

I like the surefire socom or aac blackout brake, I've shot both, hey help cut down the recoil pulse aren't to rough on the ears.
Awesome !! Thanks for the advice everyone.
I have had most of the ones mentioned, Harrels is pretty straight forward to deal with, good price, good people. I am swirching all mt short action guns over to the claymore type break, it gives less relief on the recoil but sends sound down range.
I was looking at those clamp on brakes. Is anyone using one of these? How good are they?
I recently bought a Witt Clamp On. Put it on a Model 12 FV in 308. Definitely reduced recoil, comparable to a 243 or maybe a little less. Did not affect accuracy at all as far as I can see so far. Shot several groups before and after with the same load from the same batch. It was a piece of cake to mount. http://vha.activeboard.com/t57167954/witt-muzzle-brake/ I will be posting more at VHA as I use it more.

I had the quick discharge installed on a couple .300 WSM and I was able to watch the hits.

If you don't mind the "tank barrel" look JP's recoil eliminator reduces recoil more than any other I've tried. I've use these on a couple .338 Lapuas and several other rifles I've owned.
