lets see i use nbt 70gr,varget,cci200,win brass. makes a big hole. so if you want to save hides the .243 might not be it. have also had very good luck with sierra 75gr hp with varget and imr 4350. use a good reloading manual for powder charges. good luck 8) dd

I've had good luck with 75 vmax over varget. Good groups and plenty of knockdown power.

70g Nosler, IMR 4064, CCI BR-2's in winchester brass.....can be hard on pelts

I've also had great success with the 80g Sierra blitz in a 6mm Rem. Good accuracy and good on pelts too.

I also load the Sierra 60g HP with Varget for my bro in law. Decent load that hasn't been too bad on fur.

Win brass, Win primer, 760 or H414, and a 85grn Sierra HPBT will get the job done without too much pelt damage. It makes a pretty good deer load also.

Never could understand anything less than a 100g bullet in the .243 so I shoot only the 105g Hornady A-Max. Slower powder, longer barrel life, and a high ballistic coefficient bullet. What's not to like?

How serious is the pelt damage with the heavier slugs? - I keep thinking that perhaps they may not expand fully when passing through a coyote, thus reducing the pelt damage... Is this true?

The 105 A-Max has killed every coyote I have shot so far on the spot. Years ago a friend and I hunted coyotes for the pelt market all one winter. We used the Sierra Full Metal Jacket to minimize pelt damage. Never had a coyote get up with the FMJ bullet.
