I was going to give head spacing a go this evening and was wondering how to remove the extractor on a 116 model. I have seen some instructions on the web but those are not detailed enough for my taste.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Shawn

Why remove the extractor to headspace?
The extractor basically just slides out towards the outside of the bolthead, popping off over the detent ball. Watch out though, the ball and spring underneath are small and can go flying and become lost. Best to do it inside a plastic bag or something.
204, 22 K-Hornet, 222, 223, 22-250, 22-250AI, 6BR, 243, 243AI, 6-06, 6-WSM, 250-3000AI, 270, 7-08, 7RM, 30BR, 308, 30-06, 375 H&H, 444 Marlin, 450BM, 458WM
The main reason for removal is I was told that head spacing would be more precise with the extractor removed. I would prefer to not remove it if I don't have to.
Update: I got the extractor removed... Placed the bolt in a bag and walla!
Thanks,
Shawn

I have done tons of barrel swaps, never removed one yet. Just be sure to put your headspace gauge under the extractor and help it into the chamber, that way you are sure its against the face of the bolt head.

This might help for future reference of Extractor removal.

Get a Manson headspace gauge with the Ejector cutout, then you don't have to remove the Ejector. No need to remove the Extractor.
This is what you want. http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-to...prod25179.aspx
