    First Painting of Deer

Here is a pic of my first painting with deer; titled "Edge Cover." It depicts a buck under cover at the edge of a thick stand of birches late fall. Thanks to you guys who responded with your great deer pics!

That's a painting? It looks like a photo! Is this airbrushed or done on a computer?

I'm just blown away by how much it looks like a photo?

Thanks for the great compliments guys--nope, it's entirely done by hand using paints I made myself (just like reloads, I get better results). I had been tossing around the idea of a fall painting of birches when I got the idea to include deer. While I used photos that were sent to me for reference--the picture composition is from my imagination.

    Where's the like button?
Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience

Careful--if my head gets any bigger I may have trouble walking. lol. Thanks so much--you guys are great!

I'd be happy if I could sell my works for 1/10 th of what his originals command! But I'm a deer hunter--and doing this kind of work means something special to me, so even if the market is limited compared to my mainstream artworks--I still love doing it. I already have a couple of new ideas percolating.

Fantastic! I would have said it looked like a photo also.
Very well done. The only thing I can draw are flies.

back in the day ned smith did the artwork on many of the covers on the publication known as the "pa game news"
for many years i subscribed to that publication and enjoyed his fine work. there would also be ink drawings on various pages.
as an aside there was also a regular writer name of don lewis who covered the shooting aspect of the magazine.
don would dust off the same article each fall about sighting in your rifle. another every spring about varmit hunting and the best cartridges.
when long range hunting started, it started with varmit hunters not deer hunters. fact is the original 1000 yd benchrest club at
williamsport was started by varmit hunters arguing over cartridges. well i guess don was turned off by the distance aspect for some reason.
he wrote an article about it one time and stated that if he didnt hit the groundhog exactly where he aimed he considered it a miss.
furthermore so should everybody else. that ended my subscribing to the pa game news and enjoying ned smiths drawings.
i guess it was time anyway.

Don't know how I missed this for so long. Very nice.
    Beeswax too?

Thanks so much! Yes--I know it's on with turkeys now--and sure I'd love to do something with them--maybe an etching. I'm working on another deer piece (helps keep me going til next season : ) ) The closer and higher resolution the pics the better.

Are you hunting them now--and how's it going? I saw tons of turkeys and scratches during late deer season.

TN season starts on the 29th!
Scouted on Saturday, verifying last year's locations. Saw a few and lots of deer.

    Beautiful!

Word of caution. You may want to add a watermark to your posted art. People can download and duplicate anything.

Thanks so much--you help inspire me on to do more work! I'm working on a copper-plate etching right now that is hopefully going to turn out well. Yeah--I know that people can duplicate anything and I should watermark--copyright the image, I hope nobody actually tries to profit from my hard work, but nothing surprises me these days.
