6.5-284 Stock Savage 116. Another good shooter

This is my 2nd 6.5-284 savage 116. I thought I shot the barrel out on my first 1 (1000 rounds) so I picked up a used one off a forum. It came with a Sightron Siii 6-24 x 50 MOA2. Since it was set up and I left it alone and went to work on load development. It took me longer than it should have but I found an accuracy node that gave me .2 MOA at 200 yards.

I like my Night Force scope better so I swapped them out and went to zero the rifle and bullets were not grouping. HUH? So I swapped back and bingo, .2 MOA again for a re-zero. Soooo my NF is off to NF to be fixed. My other 6.5-284 shot .3 MOA consistently so as soon as I get my scope back I will shoot it and see how the barrel is doing. I did order a Snyder 27" so it will be ok if the barrel is toast but I suspect it is in fact not toast. Still amazed at how well these stock savages perform.

Thanks. It seems if I take my time and work with the rifle the savages I have all shoot. I have 5 now and my buddy has a couple. All shoot under .3. My 204's are easily .25 and less. I have 1 that shoots in the .1's consistently. It was my first savage rifle and sold me on the savage brand. I did my first build just recently too. Took a 110 SA rifle, new from cabelas, chamber in 22-250 and installed a PTG bolt for small case, installed a 26" stainless fluted barrel, used PTG head space guages, and put it all together. Worked up a quick load that shoots 40g vmaxs at .25" at 100 at 3700. I have 3 more powders I want to try and different bullets. Hoping to see 3900 and .2 or less accuracy. It is my first build so I have some nagging questions about chamber pressures and headspacing. Good stuff though.

    Hey man... thats cool.

I am building a 6.5-06 for the longer range stuff... so far we have got 3.5 Inch group at 800yds with the 140 VLD... so looking promising.

Man I just sold my 22-250 project... Hand load with speer 52 gr was 5 shots at .5 doing around 3650-3700 with the stock savage barrel.... really cool load.

Nice work. I figured what my issue was the 204 and it is now shooting 3850 to 3900 with the same good accuracy. I had a 1x1 inch group going last weekend at 630 with the 6.5 but wind and shooter error put it 3".
