I have a factory wood stock on my savage 110. It's a decent stock, pillar bedded and free floated, but nothing fancy, it's stained birch and press checkered.
I want to try to give it a make over, before I go and drop $$$ on an aftermarket stock (which may happen anyway depending on how this turns out). I was planning on sanding down the finish, priming, painting with alumahyde, and then adding some webbing. Is their any reason this would not work?
Also, I want to fill in the checkering, obviously before the priming and painting. Is it to ambitious to try to add a palm swell?
Does anyone have any experience with a project like this with a wood stock? Would a standard wood filler work? Or would epoxy, fiberglass or bondo be better?
Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks -Leo
