    308 with 168 amax

I have varget, h4350, imr 4831 what kind of loads have treated you well?

Just want to get an idea how decent the barrel is. 150 Winchester psp didnt shoot for carp.

Use Varget with 168's. Varget with Winchester brass , with low node around 44.5grs and high node 46.0grs max. Don't worry about loading close to the lands. Please work up to these charges.

Ill work up just want an idea where most people are having luck.

I've never shot amaxs. How far off the lands usually works?
Generally its best to start close to the lands because that will show pressure first. If you ever try to go closer you have to watch for pressure. With bergers .010-.020 seems to shoot well for most

I know it's not what you asked for--but I haven't had great results with Amax's out of my 30 cal rifles so I generally don't load them--maybe I would if I had stumbled upon the right recipe. I mentioned 4064 and RL 15 because I usually get good results using one or the other.

I'm a big fan of the A-max. They seem to at least shoot well in all four of my .308's, and very well in a couple. I use Lapua brass, CCI or Rem LR primers, 43.5 Gr of RL 15, and 168 A-Max's seated .030 off the lands. This is a pretty warm load, so work yours up slowly. Good luck.

My best grouping Amax was the 178gr , 42.5gr varget with CCIbr2, and Lapua brass.
    would shoot 5 shots c-c .437" @ 100yds in my Savage 12FV
touching the lands, very light neck tension

42 +/- 0.5gr for these powders usually are close to a wide OBT / OCW node for quite a range of barrel lengths and bullet weights. It is more challenging to find a larger charge = higher velocity node except for lighter bullets, like 155gr, due to high pressure. You should not have a problem working up a good load in this range.

Thanks Charlie that's essentially what I was fishing for. Every caliber has those loads that work pretty well gun to gun. The 6.5 will shoot bergers and amaxs 140 gr bullets with 41.5-42.5 of h4350 play with depth and you will likely find a great load.
