Savage 11 base option and questions

    Hey fellas,

Upgraded the orignal scope today - Wife is excited.
Sadly I need another 1/2"-1" forward movement ( towards the muzzle ), But I am unable to do so as the rear ring is hitting the scope and I have no more forward play available on the stock bases.

I have seen the Burris XTR rings - One side is extended.

Does any one know if I can safely put the rear base in the front and the front base in the rear?
As I said I need to extend the rear base ( just aboe the bolt handle ) about 1/2" and that burris base would be perfect overhang..... Or too much?

Any one willing to try and post results or pictures before I spend money ( we Canadians have no midwayusa luxry )

    Thanks!!

Is the over hang too much or unsafe?

Not unsafe, if you don't like the over hang, go to a one piece mount.

Nope, a one piece base goes all the way across the whole action opening.

Sorry I meant to say is that overhang too much stress for the small screws?

Any one have the length of the extended burris xtr base?

    Thanks

No, it's not to much stress for the screws. There are other mounting systems that are "designed" to overhang the opening in the action, the old Redfield style for one.

How about offset rings. Would those work... Or has any one any experience with them?

Yep, a lot of folks use the Weaver extension rings in your situation. Personally I don't care for extension rings, I prefer using a 1 piece multi slot rail.
