Axis heavy barreled rifle in 308

I was at Dick's last saturday and they had what appeared to be a heavy barrel 308 win. rifle built on an axis action. I looked on Savages web sight and nothing is listed for this rifle. The action is identical to the axis. The guy behind the counter said it was a factory rifle.

Anyone seen or heard of them or know anything about them.

I saw them while browsing the Parts Finder, couldn't tell whether it was a Dick's exclusive or not. Usually a Cabelas model is marked Cab, and some Wal Mart models are marked Walmart in the build title. These didn't have anything to denote exclusivity. Time will tell.

I hope it's not a Dick's exclusive, I'd like to check one out. I haven't stepped foot in one of their stores since their December 18, 2012 announcement, and never will again.

I have a "cab" Axis, what's different from a cataloged Axis ? Mine is SS with black stock, I don't see anything exclusive.

They didn't have the usual flimsy stock that the axis has, the heavy barreled 308 rifles had a heavy thick stock and forearm found on target and sniper rifles.

A "CAB" axis is a Cabelas exclusive. I haven't compared part numbers to see what the difference is, but there must be something different about it compared to a catalog version.

OP said the HBar .308 was an Axis. The 11VT is not an Axis.

I got one 2 months ago on auction for 150 with brush scope new. Stock barrel is ok but I wanted something lighter. I ran at 26' 41/40 bar with a flair. Much better.

Are you saying savage is making heavy barreled axis rifles now. Please be more specific.

    Thanks
