Am I the only one shooting a 20VT?
So I built my 20VT from a Savage 223 Hog Hunter and so far I absolutely love it... save for the ejection.
After having poor ejection performance (the case drops off the bolt and onto the follower) with the stock bolt head, I added a special ejector kit from Sharp Shooter Supply. At the start of the day yesterday, it was ejecting great. 100%. By the end of the day (about 250 rounds) it was MAYBE 1 in 10.
How have you 20VT shooters running a Savage action dealt with the ejection problem?
Am I the only one shooting a 20VT?
how does the extractor look?
The short case doesn't work too well on the Savage action. That's why I pull the ejector spring and rod and single feed. The case stays on the bolt head till you pick it off. Started off trying to get a .221 Fireball to work. Tried shorter springs, shorter ejector rods, holding my mouth just right and finally gave up and went single feed. No more problems! Same thing with the 20 VT and the 20 VT "short" (wildcat)
All the extra effort cuts into my shooting time.
Oz never gave nothing to the Tin Man, that he didn't already have.
Install a .140 extractor detent ball. Had the same trouble with my .223,
www.mcmaster.com has them by the bag cheap.
You can also go down to your local bicycle shop and pick them up in bulk. They use them for wheel bearings. Pocket magnet, small plastic bag and a couple $$ and you're in business.
