That's a "loaded" question--a bit like asking which religion has the one true God. : ) The short answer is whichever one you can confidently put on target and has the necessary characteristics to humanely take the life of the target as quickly as possible.

    Ah--you meant 308 win--which size bullet--I wasn't sure.

For the 308 I usually stay in the 175 grain range, Heavier bullets will fight the wind better. But will be slower velocity and more drop. I really like the 180 grain Sierra game kings on pigs. The 180's might be a bit to much on small deer. You have to get ammo that will stabilize in your rifle also. Most 308's are 1-10" twist which will cover up to about 220 grain bullets. The 165 grain sierra match kings would cover both deer and pigs.

I prefer a 165-168gr bullet for hunting just about everything with a .308. The 165 Game king or 168gr Berger VLDs are excellent hunting bullets.

the 165gr GameKing and 150gr Hornady SST have worked great on deer for me. never shot pig before but I would go to 180gr+ for those.
