    Modified case

Just got a modified case for my Hornady OAL gauge off ebay for the 6.5x55. All the other ones I have are Hornady headstamped, this one is stamped PPU. Are these the same case or did somebody pull a fast one?

Same case, different manufacturer. I've made dozens of them using other brands, Win, Rem and etc.

I'm thinking Hornady doesn't load the swede so they buy the brass elsewhere?

Either that, or it was advertised as a modified case, which it is, just not modified by Hornady. Either way, it will still work.

It was in the regular Hornady packaging, that's what confused me.

Then I'd say post #4 holds the answer.

Either way as long as it is threaded properly and the neck opened up a little so the bullet will slide with slight resistance it will work. I make my own on a $35 drill press. Just need the right drill bit, tap and neck expander. I highly suspect a lot of them on ebay are homemade. Especially the hard to fine ones.
