    Feel of Savage 99 lever

Hi. Just got my first M99. Can a 99 vet describe the feel of the lever action? Mine is slick except for the last few degrees closing when it feels like it meets resistance. I think I remember reading that's how all 99's feel, but can someone describe the feel of the lever upon working the action for my benefit? If this is normal, I would be interested to know why. Thanks!

The 99 is a "cock-on-closing" action. That is what you are feeling, and it is 100% normal.

I'd be worried if I didn't feel tension near the end of the closing stroke.

working the action, notice how the bolt is cammed up into the very top of the frame by the lever when closing the action, it will be(or should be) a tight fit for and aft, this is the lock up, and gives that feel of a little bit of effort at the end of the action cycle, absolutley normal.
