Help with starting point loads 30-06

Hi all, I have a savage 111 in 30-06 I am looking for a starting point with loads for. I figure ask before I start, as a local guy gave me a spot on load for 165gr hornadys with imr 4895 (46.5gr)... his suggestion yielded quarter inch groups...

I am still using IMR 4895, but looking for a starting point for 165gr sierra game kings and 180 nosler partitions...

Thanks in advance guys, I don't mind doing load development and enjoy it, just trying to keep costs down... especially with those Noslers...

The load data you have for the Hornadys will probably also work very well with the Game kings. If it's near the top I'd back up a little and work up to it. I do know that If you don't mind trying a different powder that IMR 4350 has been the cats pajamas for me with the 165 Game Kings. I use neck sized Winchester brass, CCI BR2 primers, and work up to a near Max load of 57Gr. Results for me have been stunning and it's considered by many as a go to load for the 30-06.

What is your intended purpose between the 165 and the 180? I use 165 Gamekings in my 30-06 as well , it's a great bullet and can pretty much do anything a 180 partition can do. Can Center punch elk shoulder and have the Gamekings lodged up under the opposite hide. 46.5 gr is a really light load probably only 2550 fps or so. You could start there and work your way up over 50 to maybe 52 or so depending on pressure signs, get maybe 2850 or so out of it.

Well, the 180s for moose this summer... the 165's for practice/hunting otherwise... I love the Hornadys, just want to try out game kings as I have heard a lot of good things about Sierras...

I don't mind load development for the 165s, more to see if anyone is using IMR4895 Behind partitions, I am trying to avoid another powder just for the limited use of the 180s, but RL22 is listed as most accurate on Noslers site, and I can get it local at T&T Reloading for 23/lb

Just working up a load for a "new to me" sav 111 in 30-06 that I put together. I also like the Sierra 165 SBT for almost all my hunting. Instead of the normal 56-57 gr of IMR4350, I decided to try something lighter. I am currently looking at about 50.5 gr of IMR4350. Initial groups are less than an inch but only shot 2 groups. So you might want to try the lighter side of IMR4350. I have 2 other 30-06s that run 56 & 56.5.
    thanks,

56.5 grains imr4350 behind 165 GameKing with Fed 210 Primer or CCI BR-2 primer in Winchester brass.

You lucky dog. RL 22 is in super short supply around here and $23 a # is unheard of. That alone would be enough reason to go buy a 25-06 and some 110gr Accubonds
