V-block & larger action screws

Hi All,
I have a 112 FV in .223 and I plan on putting it in a Tacti-cool stock. my question has anyone used the whidden v block to bed with? also has anyone changed the 1/4-28 action screws to 5/16-24

Maybe a stupid question, (I know, why answer a ? with a ? ) Why would you want to change to 5/16-24 ? Did you strip or bugger up the threads ?

That is correct, I have several Anschutz .22 and they have 6mm screws and a recoil lug that's right for a .22lr now a .223 has more recoil and only 1/4" screws ? hmm

That's what the recoil lug is for. I'm thinking if Fred Moreo doesn't do that it doesn't need done.

Yes the recoil lug does take the recoil forces and adds rigidity to the stock however the actions screws also play a role in stabilizing, seating the action into the stock...larger screws (if your receiver is mod'd and your pillars drilled to accept) will in fact add to its rigidity, strength and stability...now I'm sure there is a point of diminishing returns...no need to drill and tap for 5/8ths bolts...and with larger screws one might have a tendency to over torque...

Obviously a point of diminishing return or the big boomers would have the larger screws, right ? They simply are not needed.

I agree that larger screws can not but help, I just wanted top know if anyone has tried this.
anybody tried the whidden v-block?

1/4 x 28 screws are quite sufficient. The v-block offers no accuracy advantage over a good pillar bedding job.
