Reduced Recoil 7-08 loads for niece

I just got my niece an Axis for her birthday. Now she is a 10 yrs. old and don't want to beat her up, so do any of you guys have a good reduced load for her. I was looking at the 120gr v-max as a possibility. Again this is for a 7mm-08, thanks in advance.

Hodgdon says you can load H4895 down to 60% of max. Google H4895 for the pdf.

I've used this for the .243 with Sierra 85 grain Gamekings and got decent groups.

    Good luck,

Never tried it myself in a 7-08,but there is a load listed on the Hodgdon site showing 140 SP's over 11.0gr of Trail Boss for 1211fps.

I've had very good results personally using Trail Boss for Cowboy Action loads and know others who use it in various calibers up to and including .45-70 with very good reduced power loads.

I use Trailboss for reduced loads for the 243,7-08 and 45-70.

I've loaded some with SR4759 that worked well.

+1 on trail boss. I've used it on 300 blkout, 308, and 30-06. You could make that 7-08 kick like a 22

Hodgdon's listed reduced/youth load using H4895 with the 120 nosler ballistic tip has work well for my grandson's 7-08

    Prints about 1 1/4" at 100 yards
    book velocity is 2605 fps

You can reduce more if needed with the H4895

    Hope this helps

H4895 worked perfect for whitetails with a 308w and 125 hunting BT. I would trust them with a 7-08. Tim

A 110 gr Barnes TTSX bullet over about 40 gr of H4895 would make a good reduced hunting load, about 2800 FPS and 8# of recoil in an 8# rifle

As mentioned above, the H4895 reduced loads will work fine for hunting at reasonable distances. But TrailBoss will not produce enough velocity for bullets to open up or penetrate adequately in hunting situations.

FW hit the nail on the head....velocity is critical when concerned with hunting loads...every bullet is different when it comes to performance but most hunting rounds perform best between 2500 and 3000 FPS for expansion purposes. Just make sure to read the manufactures specs for expansion.

Also nailed it. A bullet designed for the likes of a 7mm Mauser will open at lower velocities. Always look at the manufacturers specs, you'll find most give a recommendation of velocity range.

Yes, thats true. I thought he was jsut looking for plinking load to get her used to the gun. If hunting, H4895 will be perfect and the 110 Gr sierra Prohunter should expannd perfect in the 2500 fps range and should kick about like a 243

120 BT's should work well at 2600 fps or so. I shoot them much faster than that out of my 7-08 and the recoil isn't much different than my 243.
