The Hodgdon reloading manual list load data for rifle cartridges in 15 inch barrels under the pistol section.

I'm looking for loading info. for the Barnes 168gr. TSX for my Striker in .308win. I had a box given to me and can't find any data for it. Wondering if anyone had a pet load using these bullets? Also the only powders I have for now is H4895, IMR 4895, Varget, and IMR 3031.
Would really be thankful for some info. !

Thanks Trapper, I found that last night for the Varget. But I could sure use some for the other powders I mentioned above because I haven't much Varget left maybe 1/3 of a pound. I am running low on everything as a matter of fact. Without having to buy thier reloading manual, which I would rather not do at this time, until I find out more about these bullets out of a Striker. Out of rifles they sound great.
Has anyone used them out of a 15" barrel??

I picked up a .270win. take off rifle barrel and I am going to cut it down for my Striker. Does.anyone have an opinion on what I should cut it down to? I was thinking around 16.5" . but I am just guessing. I would rather not go any longer if I don't have to, but I would like all the powder burned and not wasted.
Any ideas or suggestiins are welcome.

Also was wondering about bullet weight for the .270win. . I was thinking 130gr. using Sierra SBT GKings for ranges out to 800 to 1000yards for coyotes or other critters ( whislepigs, Badgers etc)
Your help would be welcomed.

Most of my cut downs have been 17". 16.5" will work just fine and does not make it to long if you brake it.

Thank you Snowgetter1 , Is most of your powder being burned up in the barrel with your larger calibers?

Biggest I shoot is a 243 and 450 bushmaster. In a 17" I loose about 200-300 fps from the same load in a 26" barrel. I know the 243 burns more powder out of the 17" from the 14" factory barrel. There was a large sun like fireball in the 14" factory braked barrel. I know loads with slower powder like 760 were dismal, but I found 8208 xbr and it seems to be the best 243 striker combo I have. The bushmaster uses pistol powder. I know it is burning everything up. One day I am going to get me a 300 wsm in a striker.

I tried 8202xbr in my .243win 16.5" and my .308win 15" striker barrels, I got good accuracy in both. Just as I was getting them dialed in, the stores ran out and I haven't seen it on the shelves sence. (just like everything else). It seemed as though it was doing as well as Varget does in the .308.
Someday we'll have powder back on the shelves and I get to go back to the powders I liked the most.
Right now all I have left is 1/2 lbs. of Varget, H4895, IMR4895, and 1 lbs of 3031. Getting pretty bad, I hate to have to get powder off the internet because of the hazmat fee, but I may have ro break down pretty quick. I don't have enough powder to do much with.
OK I know I'm whinning I'll get off my soapbox now. That's what happens when you choose to live in the middle of no where. LOL
The 300wsm will be a fun one to shoot! With a good brake it should calm it down to the kick of .308 without a brake. I've never shot a 300wsm but I would think it would wake you up without a brake. :-)

Well I cut the. 270 barrel down to 18" and have some loads loaded up to start working on a good combo for a load. Using 4064 and 140gr. Sierra G'kings. I've seen alot of 4064 used wirh the .270win. so we'll see what happens.
I figured if I cut it at 18" it will give me some room to cut more off if I want once I get a brake for it. That will be awhile, I want to brake a couple all the barrels I vet for my striker except the .308 cause it has the stock brake on it.
I really would like ro get a .358win. or a 30-06 take off next. It looks like the .358 take off will be a hard find.

Well my lucky day, found a 7mm-8 take off for the right price so it will be on it's way.shortly. So now another questiin. What is a good length to cut it for the Striker? And anyone have a good suggestion for a powder and bullet? I would prefer Sierra or Hornady because I can normally find ether of those!Two.
Time to.sharpen the hacksaw and get ready to do somemore cutting. OH Happy days!

Thanks, I saw that, but I try for good clean take offs. I in the process of building a house so my allowance won't allow me to get it. :-(

Plus my wife isn't going to let me dip into the house fund.

Rupe, all of my cut downs have always been 16-17". Then if you need/want to sell them later they are good on a rifle too. A 17" barrel is not to long at all.

That's what I have done so far is 16.5 to 18" so when I pick up a Savage rifle later this year I can use the barrels on it to. I'm just wondering if there is a preferedd length. I know longer is better, but sometimes 16.5" works almost as well as an 18" does. I have a rule of no longer then 18" in a handgun barrel length. Just my thoughts on what is a handgun barrel, but that's just me and I don't look down on any one for havong longer then 18". Heck mayne one of these days I'll try a shot threw a 22" barrel! :-)

If you are patient and look around you may get lucky on the 358 barrel. I picked up my 19" stainless McGowen in the classified section here for $70. It shoots the 200gr TTSX into sub .5 MOA groups at 200 yards with a 2.5-8x scope. Just keep looking!
