    Anniversary model 110-Anything Special

Hi: I'm new here and, with the exception of the MLII, new with Savage firearms. I'm considering purchase of a 110 anniverary model in 300 Savage. Anything special about this rifle other the cosmetic stuff and better grade of wood? Is the bottom metal steel or pot metal? Local dealer has one hanging about 10' off the floor and refuses to let anyone handle it. He values it very highly, about $1400. Needless to say, I will be shopping elsewhere. Any and all input will be appreciated. Stoney

Yeah, I think he will have the rifle for some time. His song and dance is that the rifle is a "collectors piece", and should not be handled by peons by me. I beg to differ on the collectors piece crap. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe any 110 is collectable in the way pre-war 70s are. There may be some interest in the older premium and presentation grades, but I've never laid eyes on one of those.

you might as well build your own for a lot less. I think the gold inlay is way over the top that they have on them anyway.

Can anybody tell me if the bottom metal on these rifles is steel or pot metal? Thanks, Stoney

Definitely not pot metal. Some sort of cast steel.

Found one for $960 out the door. Still trying to wrap my head around that much $$ for a gussied up (garish?) 110. I'l take the weekend to mull it over.

collectables in firearm's a crap shoot. purists scoff at the 99 75th anniversary and centennials but…prices have gone up. who knows, 5, 10 years from now it could pay your kids college tuition

But who wants a rifle that can only be looked at occasionally and hidden in the back of the safe waiting for value to go up.
