    Savage Model 30F 410 Gauge

I just bought a pump action shotgun, 410 gauge, stamped Savage Model 30F. It has a 26" vent rib barrel and is chambered for 3" shells. The shotgun is in great condition but appears old. I have been unable to find any information about this gun. It has one number stamped just forward of the loading port and a different number stamped on the left side of the barrel. Anyone know about this model? Any info would be appreciated. I own several Savage rifles and am a big fan, just don't like not knowing about a weapon that I own.

The number stamped on left side of barrel is 56511 and there are other "proof" type stamps in the area of this number. The number stamped forward of the loading port is 173.

Are you sure the 173 is a 3 and not a letter? Is it inside of a small circle?

Tough one, it's not even an A series shotgun and apparently doesn't have a date code on it either.

Have a look at the barrel near the receiver and see if you can't find a small circle with a number and a letter stamped inside of the circle, I can't believe this gun was made before 1949, should have a date code on it somewhere.

There is a circle with 5S inside on the barrel near the receiver. Also it is chambered for 3" shells so it cant be older than late 60's early 70's right?

Perfect, you found the date code, the "S" stands for 1965 so at least we know what year it was made, now what did you wanna know about the shotgun, I'll dig out the 1965 catalog and have a looksee.

Just basics like breakdown for cleaning, shell capacity (plug or no plug), parts availability, safety issues (kids will be using), etc. I REALLY appreciate all that you are doing to help, thank you!

Shell capacity is 4 rounds without the plug and 3 with it in the 410.

Unsure of safety issues, Savage would have to be the people to make a call to on that.

Parts and schematic breakdowns are all on Numrichs pages.
