What load would work best in my model 10 .308???

I have a model 10 .308 with a 26" heavy barrel and the choate stock. Please tell me what load to start with. I am using this rig for F-class and will be shooting 600 yards.

    Thanks

Every rifle is different and what works in one rifle may or may not work well in another. Search through the various threads in this section for .308 loads and you will find quite a number of suggested accuracy loads. There are no guarantees, however.

I guess what I am looking for mostly is what kind and weight of bullets would be good for what I plan to do. I am planning on using lapua brass cci primers not quite sure on powder yet.

Although all rifles are different I would say 168gr BTHP. I would look at SMK's, Nosler, or Berger bullets. Reason being for 600yds you can push the 168's a bit faster than the 175's. The 600yds F-Class match I just participated in seemed the guys using 168's were having more consistency than my 175's.

I have had amazing results from Varget, CCI BR2s, and 175gr SMKs. I only use winchester brass as well.

Thanks for all the info so far. I have decided on the powder I went with H4895 and cci primers. Now I just have to order some bullets. Thinking about SMK's 168 and 175 and berger 155 vld's or hybrids.

I don't shoot match but my most accruate load is imr 4895 39 grs. and 168 hornady. For 2550 fps.

Lapua brass and cci br2 are both excellent. Just as Important as bullet selection for this type of shooting Is round consistency. Perfect seating depth and bullet tension as well as runout and powder charge. You will have to hand weigh each one If you are really going to be competitve. Myself personally like the heavier stuff. 175 mks or even 185 hybrid bergers to help fight the wind. Wind Is your worst enemy. You wont give up as much velocity as you might think but you will have less wind drift.
