    300 Black out

Anyone have any experience with one of these? Was thinking of doing one of these for a cast bullet shooter. I am not going to run it sub sonic.

I just put a 300 blk barrel on my short action 200. Haven't had a chance to shoot it. Will be shooting the 230 and 155 cast bullets in it. Looks like a fun gun. Papalote.

Have been playing with a couple of blks since June. No cast bullets but converted .556 brass and have shot 110s to 175s settling mostly on the sierra match king 125s. Really fun and cheap to shoot. Good platform for learning how to convert brass and reload.

Hadn't thought about the 300 as a cast bullet shooter. That seems like a fine role with the option of going jacketed or unleaded when needs suggest.

Lee makes a bullet mold specifically for the Blackout. Here's the Midway info for it: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/938...5-ogive-radius

    So does NOE bullet molds.

I have a two cavity NOE mold with one cavity gaschecked and the other is plain base. The gas check bullet makes a great full power 30-06, I have been able to run them up to 2250fps with accuracy good enough for hunting. On the other hand I load a lot of 30-06 rounds with the plain base version and 9.5gr of trailboss for a sub sonic plinker and rabbit load.

I had a 300 whisper before it was cool, but after I found out how easy the 30-06 was to down load with that bullet I sold my 300 upper and have been playing with my 30-06 since. I did manage to kill a couple antelope with it before it hit the road though, 125gr Nosler Ballistic tips in the 2250fps range worked very well, almost as good as the same bullet at 3350fps from my 06.

I keep thinking about getting a 16.5" 300 blackout barrel instead of a short 308 barrel since 223 brass is cheap and there are plenty of people that throw it away and I wouldn't care much if I dropped some hunting. I could just pick up a 223 mag and bolt head. I bet if I sifted the berm at the ranch there would be a pound or two of lead in it to start casting.

Most guys on the Cast Boolits forum were not impressed with the way that bullet shot.

I just picked up a .300 AAC barrel for my Encore for less than $200 before Christmas. I can't wait to start playing with it when I get some time.

I had one on an XP100 pistol, fun to shoot and accurate but I got bored with it pretty quick and pulled it off. I never even thought about cast boolits in it.

It's better to shoot for the moon and hit the fencepost than to shoot for the fencepost and hit the ground!

Well I do about 99% of my shooting with cast bullets. I put a 308win Shilen SS Select Match barrel on just to shoot cast. Mainly shooting 180 gr Mihec SIL bullet and 200 gr RCBS SIL bullet. I have the 180 gr running about 2100 fps and doing a 5 shot .75" group. The RCBS is doing right at 1" at 2100 fps.

Was looking at the 300 to shoot a 155 gr Lee Harris designed bullet. They shoot pretty good now, but I want to use less powder. In this day and age we are going through, every little bit will help.
