You can do it at home as long as you have a good vice, an action wrench, and barrel nut wrench.
Oh and a set of go/no go gauges.
Thanks LW,the vice and wrenches I get but can you walk me thru the go-no go gauges.
I followed this video for mine. You need a set of 308 go/No Go Gauges
Thanks LW,Another ?,after installing my new applejack Boyds stock, thinking about a a dark to med. grey finish for your old barrel/my new barrel, whats best?
If I could do anything it would probably be cerakote. I just went with krylon though when I painted my stainless.
Thanks LW,did you get to ship barrel today?
When you refer to action wrench, its the part that holds action in a regular vice correct? Looks pretty straight forward,Not scared anymore!
An action wrench holds the action while you work on it. Some, like this one from Midwayusa can be put in a vice, but most have bolts that allow you to clamp the two halves together and a handle to use for leverage. the middle bolt goes into the forward action screw hole to prevent the whole thing from slipping:
Then there are those similar to the one below that actually go inside the action from the rear and push against the internal lugs to provide the twisting torque to unscrew a barrel: Photo is also from the Midwayusa web site.
That is slick!
