Savage 111 7mm rem mag to 338 lapua conversion

Hello all and thank you in advance for any input and help

I have a savage 111 in 7mm rem mag with a Falcon Menace 4-14/44 scope and Ultimate Sniper stock. I still have the original 24 inch barrel on it and the factory trigger. Using hornady 156 gr sst rounds I'm shooting sub Moa groups at 100 yards. I have reached the max range of this setup at 1200 yards on a 12/12 inch target.
I want to convert to 338 lapua but I haven't been able to find any info on wether this can be done or not. I'm not worried about having it be a repeater for it is already a single shot gun any way. I'm just looking to see if I can switch the barrel, bolt face and recoil lug. I would like to get a 111 LRH factory barrel to put on but can't seem to find one

Thanks for the input and happy shooting Hooah

I would think as long as your okay with a single shot you should be okay, You may have to open up the ejection port a little, I not sure without looking up case lengths.
Retired sniper. You can run, But you will only die tired!!!

Putting a .338 Lapua barrel on a standard shank action is dancing with the devil. It is not recommended ,nor encouraged. The Savage 110 BA in .338 Lapua uses a special built large shank action just for that caliber.

Yes you could do the above but it will probably remain a single shot.

The easiest thing to do, and I did this with a 7 mag, is to put a 338 Edge barrel on the rifle. Just unscrew the 7 mag barrel, and screw the Edge barrel on and your ready to go. You don't have to change the bolthead, but I would put a heavy duty recoil lug on.

Your overall cost including reloading is greatly reduced. Plus you have a rifle that's within 3% of the 338 Lapua. I understand several were creative and made the rifle a repeater. I don't know if a 300 grain bullet will be anything but a single shot, but maybe someone will join in who has done it.

Overall I love mine as a single shot and it's everybit as accurate as the Lapua. I have a few Edge bullets loaded up with Berger 300's if you need any measurements.

The 111 7 mag uses a standard shank barrel,(1.055") and has a large port. The 111 .338 Lapua uses a large shank barrel,(1.120") and has a small port receiver that has thicker lug abutments and thicker bolt lugs. The heat treat is also different.
Using a standard shank receiver will result in case swelling, causing sticky bolt lift, not to mention lug set back. Even with a .338 Edge, I would recommend a large shank receiver.
