What Caliber will be your 2014 Savage Build Be??

I'm currently building a .284 Win, I just got the 32" Brux Barrel chambered, chambered for the 180 Berger Hybrid, PTA, Rifle Basics Trigger,,, haven't decided on stock or scope yet.

I have 3 that I'm doing. One is definitely 6.5x55 as I just picked up a Shilen from the classifieds here.

For the other two I'm trying to decide between 223, 243, and 7mm-08. I already have a 223, but I also have an extra 223 barrel ready to use, but I like the idea of adding the 243 and 7mm-08 (not that I need more calibers).

I'm currently building a 300AAC for fun. I have the barrel blank turned and threaded, now to chamber it and finish the barrel. Not sure which action I will build it on, would like to find a 10 already in 223, but a Stevens 200 will work just as well. This is a long term project, that way I can wait for the right parts as they come available. I have a 300 AAC barrel for one of my Encores, and I have been doing load development with that. I don't currently have a suppressor and really don't have any plans to acquire one, but there are several in our group who have them and would like to use my platform for their suppressor when we get together. It is a fun cartridge to play with, and the variety of projectiles you can sling down range with it is almost unlimited. Blitzfile

Mine will be based on the tried and true .243Win. I can't see any reason to change to something else. I love the things!!

I have a .223 Rem and .260 Rem builds underway, with a 338-06 already in the safe. Debating on a big bore caliber next like a 375 H&H Savage Safari build.

243AI, been collecting part's for a couple of month's now and I'm getting close. So for I have a new Stevens 200 action with a BT bolt handle. CBI 26" Varmint Barrel 1-8, Sav-2 trigger. The stock is a Choate tactical fully adjustable model, Weaver 20 moa rail with Seekins rings and a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x50 NP-R2 HS ZS scope. Still have to get a Harris bipod and send stock to CDI for inlet and bottom metal. Once the action returns from getting a T&T and the stock get's back I will put it together and break in the barrel, then I will break it all back down and send it off to be nitrided. I can hardly wait!

I really am not set on a caliber yet. Probably a short mag of some sort. I want to get into long range deer shooting.

I just need to spend some time with a couple of my 2013 builds. Did lots of building, but not enough range time to enjoy them all yet, and still got a couple loads to do the final tweaks to. Going to try and get a 243 Win put together here in the next week for my friend, we've been ducking hunting together for years and I've finally got him talked into trying his hand at deer. Got all the parts, just trying to set aside the time with the holidays.

    My 2014 CHAMBERINGS will be:
    350 Remington Mag LH
    243 AI LH
possibly a 7TCU LH to go with my xp100 and Contender.

so to answer the question, .358, .243, and .284

The only reason I'm going 260 or 260AI is for Lapua brass. That and my shooting buddy has a creed already and I wanna have something different, even if they're so close in ballistics that the name is the only noticeable part.

That's the reason I was leaning to the 260 was Lapua brass or using any 243 or 308 brass. The 6xc I figured I would get Lapua 22-250 brass and sizing it to 6xc. Or I will just get Norma 6xc brass. I was kinda thinking AI the 260 for some more speed if I want and less brass prep.

We'll I already have my 6.5 Grendel 28 inch barrel bench gun build, and I love it !

For 2014, it will be a 20.5 inch barrels 6.5 Grendel, using an Hog Hunter stock, and having a Cooley muzzle break.

I think for an efficient light recoiling caliber for deer, hog, and varmints it fits me to a tee. I will use a McGowen barrel with a 1/8 twist and a threaded barrel. (I'm very, very happy with the service of McGowen and the quality of their barrels !).

I will be using a Savage short action and order the magazine parts from Savage, (Effie at Savage is the best customer service person I have spoken to in years .... She knows the product line, and gets you what you need).

As far as a scope, I don't know, but it need to have AO and most likely a 30mm tube, but we will see !

The 30 Remington I'm working on should be done in about six weeks. The next one I'm considering is a 25-222 Copperhead. Both will be used primarily with cast bullets.

On 12/23/2013 I screwed a 24" Lt. Varmint contour PAC-NOR .17 cal. 10tw 3 groove chambered in .17 Ackley Hornet on a Model 10 with a PTG Hornet boltface. I have a 26" Varmint Contour 9tw 3 groove .20 cal. to be chambered with my .20-.223 Ackley Improved reamer ordered with them so when it arrives it will be the first for 2014!

    I have enough Savage rifles.

I'm working on convincing my 'ol lady I need a Barrett .416 or maybe even a .50 or else I'll die.

So far she said she's going to miss me. I take that as a positive sign.....
'Scuse me while I whip this out...!

I am building on a Savage PTA. I have my first barrel, a Shilen in .223. My second barrel is on order from Krieger and will be 6.5X47 Lapua.

7 WSM should be here in Feb sometime. 18" bull contour for a Striker build. 338 RUM will follow in the Summer, same barrel length.
    More shooting, less typing.

I need to shoot the ones I have (20" 260 and 22" 223AI) way more than I need to build new ones.

That said, a quick build will be converting a 110 7RM sporter to 308 and that might happen before the end of 2013.

Very high odds of a 450 Bushmaster in 2014.

    Also considering a 20-22" 8 twist 6x45 or 6TCU throated for 107s.
