My pic rail was 1.60 ounces and the Burris signature rings 4.1 ounces.

The Talley LW rings are 2.1 ounces for the low mount, figure 2.5 for the mid and 2.9 for the high rings.

Finally have the rifle 99% finished. Still need to bed the receiver, and change the bolt handle. Right now it weighs 6 pounds 15.5 ounces with scope and magazine, no bullets. Just added the 4.05 ounce Limbsaver pad. Recoil is low, half a 243.

I shot it today to zero in the Weaver 2-10x38 scope. Using Hornady 110 V-Max as they are easy to get. It used to shoot 0.5 to 0.75 groups at 100 yards when the barrel was 24 inches. Barrel now 18 inches, I shot 2 round groups each touching the other bullet, say 0.25 inch groups.

The target shown started at 25 yards, you can see the black dots where I moved the scope in to point of aim. Moved out to 100 yards, first 2 rounds touching high, adjusted and next two rounds also touching. I think that is good enough for a under 7 pound hunting rifle.

Photo of the Sig Sauer at the Clark County shooting range. Shot Show next week!!!!

I actually would like to find a Savage blind magazine walnut stock for center feed magazine, with no Monte Carlo cheek piece and non glossy finish.

Would like to cut 2-3 inches off the fore arm and a full inch off the butt pad. Then hollow out the stock as much as possible to see if I could get it to less than 20 ounces.

I could try a Boyds laminated stock, but that wood is really hard to work on. But it might make a better light weight hunting stock.

    Sundodger,

Some nice person posted the part number for the LWH stock, STOCK RH SH DBM/HF OIL/WAX (11LWH) - PN: 108638
    $284.00

That is a great starting point for a stainless barrel/action light weight rifle.

Ordered form eBay from BoltKnobs.Com a carbon fiber Savage bolt handle.

They mention the fit is tight and needs so work, just 2 minutes with a jewelers file and it fit perfect.

So complete bolt with standard stainless bolt handle was 12.45 ounces:

    Stainless bolt weighs 2.60 ounces:

New Carbon Fiber bolt handle weighs 1.15 ounces:

New weight of complete bolt assembly 11.00 ounces:

There are a lot of titanium parts coming out for AR15's, my 16 inch barreled 6.8 SPC II is down to 3.5 pounds.

Does anyone know some one making Savage bolts and other parts in Titanium? Other than the bolt head almost all the other parts could be made from titanium.

What serial number did those plastic parts come from? Id like to think about ordering some from Savage. Ive been looking at getting a light weight rifle and this thread is very helpful!
