Barrel came in finally, 300 winmag together now

Was going to sell this after waiting too long for a barrel, I had a custom 260 built in the mean time. Well after screwing the barrel on the action I could not bring myself to sell it.

300 WM CBI Match 1-10 twist 28" barrel (18 weeks)
Choate Tactical Stock, rattle can paint job, will get a Mcrees when they make a LA chassis
CDI bottom metal with AI 5 rd Mags
    FTE removable brake
    SS 20X MIL MIL scope
    O MOA base EGW
    Harris bipod

I like that. Very nicely done. Tastefully done, not too flashy.

    Good luck with it.

PS - Next time use the kitchen table......
'Scuse me while I whip this out...!

Look's great, that is the exact rifle that I have planned. Only thing diff on my build is a McGowen barrel with painkiller brake and 16X SS.

Thats a very nice build..That rifle would do well here in WA state sitting on a stump overlooking a canyon...The elk would not like it though

Well I hit the range today, the Win factory ammo shot around 3/4 inch, it seemed a few of them were unstable at 100 yds, leaving a tear or jagged hole in the target.still hit where I was aiming, my hand loads were about 1/2 -5/8ths MOA,only shot 40Win factory 180 sp rounds and 20 of my hand loads. I have to say I was a bit pissed waiting so long for the barrel from Jim, but the threading job they did for the removable brake is perfect and it seems this barrel will be a shooter big time so I aint pissed anymore, it turns out the wait was worth it. The FTE and heavy barrel made the recoil less than my 260 non braked M 24 barreled 700. I am a happy camper, the people next to me and the car in the parking lot alarming were not so happy with the noise, but hey, screw em, its what shooting is all about. Now to work up a load with 190 smk's and IMR 4350 powder.

Sweet. That is very similar to my build in progress. I'm 10 weeks into the wait for the same barrel (except no threading). Same stock and rattle can colors, rifle basix trigger, 20 moa ferrell base and swfa ss10x42 scope (temporary). I think I'll skip the break, as the recoil is not bad with the sporter takeoff barrel i have on it now. I was quoted 16 weeks, hope I get it then.

Thanks, the barrel came in a few weeks ago and is installed now. I 'm waiting on the ken farrell rings now, as i ordered them Friday. Gonna put an swfa ss hd5-20x50 on it then it's done. I'm so ready to shoot, it's been a long wait (for the barrel).

I had the bolt tube fluted but changed my mind after this pic, and ordered the fishnet fluted bolt body for it from SSS, the fishnet is best by far, will be ordering 4 more for my other savages.

Dang! Good looking rifles. As it turns out I'm putting together the same thing! Got the same CBI barrel, same stock, no break, Farrell 30 MOA base, SIII scope and a heavy duty bi-pod I took off a AR-50!

One thing I noticed with the CBI match chamber...... it is a little tight. I was resizing once fired 300wm brass shot in other rifles with looser chamber and typical RCBS and Hornady FL sizing die did not bring the case down in size enough. The diameter of the case in front of the belt had to be .511 or less in order for it to chamber, the larger .514 after resized in a typical FL die was coming out .512 and would not chamber. I have a CH-4d die that takes the diameter down to .310 and all is good. Won't be a problem with brass fired from this chamber or when using new brass but sizing down once fired brass from a larger chamber may require "small base" FL sizing dies for the CBI 300 wm Match chamber.

Look forward to seeing some range reports.

I ended up using the collet die that squeezes the base along with the small base die to get once fired to fit. I have since turned the barrel into a 3006, had it rechambered by Larry Racine, he did a great job, shooting 1/2 inch driving 190 smks with 53.5 gr of H4350.
