    Remington 783 / savage rip off?


    just saw a remington 783. i am sure this has been a topic in the past on this forum but i have not been active for a while. it looks like a savage rip off. thoughts?

    after watching more videos on the rifle i am pretty sure i could just post this topic in the axis section of the forum

    Klayton, It would seem that Remington pulled a pacific rim trick. They copied the original and made many improvements along the way. Imitation is the best form of flattery.

    Actually they copied the Marlin (after they bought Marlin), which was a copy of the Savage.

    Jim, Would you say the Remington 783 is a worthy competitor of the Axis rifle?

    Honestly? I'd say the 783 is a better buy than the Axis rifle. It has a better stock and a better trigger, and based on the couple reviews I've read they're plenty accurate. The Remington does cost a little more than the Axis ($75-100), but if you factor in the $100 for a Boyds stock and the hassle/cost of hunting down an AccuTrigger to swap into the Axis you're ahead of the game with the Remington.
