feeding with 243 on long action

bought a 110, got a great deal on it...$265 for like new with accutrigger. i plan to take off the 30-06 barrel and put on a 243 i bought on here. running a few 243's through the centerfeed magazine though shows that if i don't work the bolt really fast the round can jump right out or stovepipe.

any tricks to make it work?

http://www.savageshooters.com/showth...highlight=bvss I built the same on a long action stagger feed without any feeding problems; you might have to tweak the magazine a lil bit. Some have put a spacer in the rear of the mag to keep rounds to the front also.

Spacer with a short action mag might work but it wont work with the LA mag. There should be no problem with the feeding of the round though. Depending on how fast you are cycling, it should be fine.

I have had no problems with my .243 feeding through a long action Axis mag.

yeah but the axis is a detachable mag. this is the centerfeed in the stock style. as soon as the round is free from the mag it has a lot of room in the action to get loose.

The detachable mags are the same as the in the stock centerfeed mags. The only difference is the detachable has a bottom plate on it which you take off when turning it into a blind centerfeed or put the bottom plate on to turn it into a detachable mag.

not exactly. the mag lips are further forward in the axis. that's why there are two trigger guard pieces depending on short or long action.

I was referring to the 110 model savage and the Stevens actions.
