If I could get ahold of the 6.5/6.5 creed/260rem/7-08 brass cheaper, Id of already gone with one of those calibers. Im sure Ill dive into another at some point....but to me....the lighter 308,s have proven themsleves thru that 5R barrel.
    What bullet/propellant are you using?
For his gun I load 175 SMK and Varget. For mine I use 175 SMK and 4064.

    His is a 12 Benchrest, so it's a 29" barrel 1 in 12.

    I'm shooting a 10 BA, 24" barrel and 1 in 10.

Little update on this. Found out what load it likes. Went to a 155 Scenar and it's like a different gun.

My son shot the best he's ever shot last match. We did a 3 x 600 match and he shot a 571-10X. He placed 1st again in Jr but more importantly, 4th overall in F/TR. He only dropped below a 9 one time when he missed a wind change. He had a string of 10's and shot an 8. I told him if he had not missed it and shot a 10 again, he would have been in 3rd. The neat part, he shot that score off a Harris bipod. I just got him a 3rd Gen Sincliar for next match so we are eager to see how he does. Very proud of him. The kid can shoot!

A 571 us nothing to sneeze at, good shooting. I plan on shooting AEDC in August at the 1k state match. Very nice range.

Powder was the same, Varget. It's the bullet that's different because of the twist. Played with seating depth and found it likes a .030" jump. Ended up using a 155 Scenar "flying" that shot best groups in testing.

Everything about this thread is cool to me. I'm intrigued by F class & F/TR. Maybe by the time I figure it out, I'll qualify for some senior class or something. :-)

Ive been eyeing the 155,s as well. My HS with 24" 11.25twist does extremely well with 150 smk,s but I cant help but to wanna give the 155,s ago. I have a little under 1K worth of 150smk,s so it may be awhile before I give the 155,s a try.
Congrates on getting your boy out there and doing well.

I had no choice. It hated the 175's. The 155 Scenars were a marked improvement. I measured the twist and it's actually 1 in 12.25".

We just shot it at 1,000 last weekend to get a zero and see how the dope was. Eager to see how he scores at the next 1,000.

that little extra twist you didnt know you had is excellant for those lighter pills along with a little more umph to go along with it.

shear velocity sure can be your friend.

    Little update:

Pretty proud of my son. Today in the mail he got his expert classification from the NRA for 600 yard F class. He started last year, we got a little more serious this year and he's done better at every match this year. The neat part was, he only only shot (3) 600 yard matches this year and 2 out of 3 were w/ a Harris bipod in F/TR.

If he was not hooked before (he was) he's really hooked now! I can see many more matches (dollars) in our future. :)
