    Savage 10fp

I currently have a 10fp in .223 Rem but have been thinking of converting it to .22-250. Any idea of what I need? Any pitfalls to converting it?

Need to change bolthead to a 308 (.473") and maybe the baffle depending on which one it has now. I have done it with no problems. The hardest part is getting the factory barrel off.

I just changed my model 12 from 223 to 22-250. Ordered the bolt head from midway, 20 bucks. They come with extractor but not any ejector. Ordered all three pieces of the ejector and lost the tiny little spring right off. I'v been running with ejector hole empty and works great. I reload and hate my brass hitting the ground anyway. Removing it by hand suits me fine for now. I didnt change the mag box so I'm running as a single shot too. No follower needed just drop the 22-250 round in the port and feeds fine. BTW, I most likely will set up ejector with the next order from midway. Bill

Is that all I need, barrel, bolt face, ejector, extractor? Where's the best place to get the barrel? I want new not used.

Go to the vendors section and look at Northlander shooting Supply or SSS.

+1 Northlander, Jims has a lot of barrels in stock. If your lucky and he has the one you want, It'll be at your door in a week or so. I'v bought a few from him... ;D Bill

Keep the 10FP just the way it is. Go find yourself a Stevens 200 in a .243, 7mm08, or a .308 and convet it. Bolt is the same. Just swap the barrel and maybe get yourself a good trigger.

Edit: I just looked. Stevens does come in a 22-250.

Sorry but I think the 10FP is too much of a straight shooter to mess with. I have one in .223 and it is a tack driver.

Yes, my .223 will shoot 1/2" groups all day long using the 69 gr match bullet but I want something to shoot a 55 gr bullet for varminting. I'm kind of torn on converting it because it is so accurate. I'd stay with the .223 if it would shoot the 55 gr bullets accurately but I haven't had much luck with them.

My .223 FCP-K won't shoot several different 55gr. bullets, but it loves SMK 53gr.

I shoot 55g Hornady V-Max using IMR 4198 21.5g. mine likes that load in my 223 flp.
They who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

I would do like psharon97 and shoot the 55gr V-Max, or I really like the 55gr Nosler Ballistic Tip (orange tip) with 25gr of H335.

Please don't change anything about the 10FP. I beg you. ;D

Try 55gr. V-Max on top 25.5 of Varget
I have yet to see a .223 that won't shoot under MOA with this load.
All of my .223's to date put this load at .5 MOA, except my Mini-14
    which does right around MOA
I have run this load in 1:14, 1:12, 1:9 and 1:8 barrels all well under MOA.
