I did see from else where on this site that the A pre-fix serial began in 1968. The syn. stock does not seem to be from that time frame? also the smooth barrel nut I have not seen on any other 110s ?
I just purchased my first Savage centerfire. Its a 110E series H. It has an A695xxx serial no. The barrel nut is smooth with no notches in it. It also has a synthetic stock with a steel floor plate. Any help on identifying date of man. would be greatly appreciated .. Thank You, gam97a

The A serial number prefix would put it somewhere in the 1968-early 70's time frame. However, since Savage didn't start offering synthetic stocks until 1988 with the introduction of the Model 110F it's obviously not original to the rifle. 110E's had hardwood stocks with pressed checkering in the grip and forearm areas. Savage did experiment with a smooth barrel nut for a very brief time somewhere in the 60's/70's, but exactly when it was I can't say for certain.

The first version of the smooth barrel nut was in 1969.
