Purchased a 12 FV 22-250 about a month ago. I purchased this gun with the sole intent of shooting prairie dogs.
Worked up some loads for it and finally got out into the field today.

Spent the day with friends on private land and shot quite a few between 300-400 yds give or take. Very impressed with the accuracy of this gun.
I am definitely hooked. I have the OK to go out and shoot them any time and am going to be introduced to other ranch owners in the area who are begging for these critters to be removed....

Sometimes life is good..

Welcome to the shooting experience of a lifetime.There is nothing like hearing the whop of a good hit on one of the little rascals,nothing else sounds like it.The only problem is getting hooked on this is you won't be happy with one rifle.Next you will find a need a 223 for some shots,a 243 Ackley for the real long shots,a 260 for the next zip code and a 17 or 20 caliber for the fun of it.I have been doing it for over 30 years and still find myself looking at new calibers and rifles,I guess it is a disease without a cure.

I did it the 1st time this year too. Wow, it was fun. I am with pdog, the 260 was awesome at long range. I was shooting 100 gr a-max and making easy hits out to 800. That was my limit. Enjoy the experience. I just wish I lived closer to where the p-dogs are.

My first varmint rifle was a 22-250. I lost track of how many NY state woodchucks that rifle took down. That tiny bullet would open them up like they had a zipper on their front sides!

FINALLY got out this year. It was colder than expected and the weather man had the wind speed WAY off. We had to hide behind trailers to block the wind.
Still had a great time. Got 10 anyway.
It just got too cold, the PD's and us all went indoors early.

This July will be my second year shooting PD's. The only thing that sounds remotely close to the Whap! of a 55gr bullet smacking a PD in his little fat belly is maybe a 100 mph fastball in the catchers mit on opening day of ball season. Other than that, nothing else comes close. I am in the midst of loading some .223's for my 12FV varmint rifle. I am taking two: .22-250 Mauser 98k and a Savage 12FV in .223. Both guns are bad to the bone out to 500 yards! Longest shot for me last year on P-Dogs was 521, but I was the first one to break 500 yds.

Can't wait til July!

Whats your load??

I just picked up another 22-250. Got a ladder loaded with h380 and nosler 55 gr BT'S. Anxious to get the load worked up for the up and coming woodchuck awakening. Hehe

Btw I absolutely love the nosler varmageddon ad campaign. I'd love to get some vinyl done up for the truck!

Went for the first time last June and goin back again this year at the same time the group I go with are hooked now we are trying to get rifles and loads set up for the trip

.22-250 = 55gr HP nosler varmageddon loaded with 35 gr of IMR 4064 blows them up out to about 400 yards. Beyond that they still WHAP but they just flip over.

.223 Rem= 62gr HP nosler varmageddon loaded with 23 gr of IMR 4064 blows them up out to about 350 yards. Beyond that they still WHAP but they just flip over.

Either way they end up dead!

Good to hear! Vmax does more damage than the nosler bt's but I havent tried the varmageddon bullets. I was thinking about trying the varmint grenades for a more entertaining kill.

I went back and checked my load notes for the .22-250 and I had some 55gr HP Nosler Varmageddon loaded with 33grains of IMR 3031. I have had good results out of either loads. I am still a noob at shooting long distances so I don't shoot tight enough yet to tell you which load groups better while zeroing. When testing these loads, All my groups were half dollar sized at 200 yards.

I do know that my friend that leads our trips shoots same hole at 200 yards with 55gr hornady ballistic tips with Reloader 15 in .22-250.

My favorite load is 55gr Nolser Varmaggedon HP backed by 34.0 of IMR 4064. Consistently less than .5" at 200 yds.

Now if I could get a day off where it isn't cold/windy/snowing.
