You may want to rephrase the question to where on the gun/action.
My guess is down in the magazine box?
So whats my prize?

Think about it. The only place that a ball bearing is at is behind the extractor. Unless it was an aftermarket gunk button that came apart, but it would stay in the back of the bolt assembly. I think that the hole is an optical illusion, I believes it is a impression from the spring that would have sat behind it, and launched it out.

Well - actually - there are 2 more ball bearings in a Savage bolt - they are located in the rear baffle.

Well you guys got the location correct. It is not an optical illusion, remember I said I had a good laugh. I'm sure the light bulb will come on for someone. ;D

Ok, there is some illusion going on. The center shiny part is just camera effect, ignore the shine, you can't see that with your eye.

Is it part of a pull switch chain for a light fixture?

Ohhhh it was in the baffle.

Nope, wait it was in the bolt where the lift kit would have been..

We have a 2x winner. Was it my "I'm sure the light bulb will come on for someone" comment ;D It is that type of pull chain bead thingy but probably off something smaller. It still has the cut off link in it, that is what is sticking out. It was under the extractor. I was bored so I trued the head in the lathe and tuned the ejector and replaced the extractor ball. As I went to throw out the old ball, I noticed it had a hole in it. I bought this action for a project and as usual I go over them completely. This was the final bit of work I did to it, glad I saved the best for last.

that is why i was saying a bead at first. If you look at the photo you can actually see the hole on the opposite side through the seam. I own a bead store so i see this stuff all day long

Yup you are right, I just forget about them.
Could it maybe be one of the chins that holds the pen at the desk in a bank?
